Motorcycle Theft Caught on Downtown Cameras

On Saturday, June 8, 2019, the Fort Myers Police Department received a report of a stolen 2011 Yamaha motorcycle from a downtown Fort Myers parking spot.

Officers with the FMPD Intelligence Unit reviewed camera footage from the area and watched a Red Chrysler minivan back up to the motorcycle. Further observation showed a male and female suspect load the motorcycle into the back of the van and drive away.

Through further investigation, officers were able to trace the owner and discover his Fort Myers address of 4790 S Cleveland Ave Unit 101 in the Pinewood South Condominiums.

Officers reviewed additional video footage from the complex’s security system which showed the same van entering the parking lot, unloading the motorcycle and pushing it into the condo. Officers requested a search warrant for the premises and located the motorcycle.

Michael Dale Thomas (dob 07/13/1983) and his accomplice Melissa Jean Harty (dob 2/16/1987) were arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft. Thomas was also charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were taken into custody and transported to the Lee County jail.
