The Fort Myers Police Department, working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), will be accepting unwanted, expired or unused medications and needles on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the police station’s lobby.
The FMPD is located at 2210 Widman Way in Downtown Fort Myers. This service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.
The take-back program is designed to rid homes of old and unused medications that may pose a risk to children and family members or be a target of thieves.
Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem in the United States and the former methods of disposing medications such as throwing them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet pose safety and health hazards. Officers will be on hand to accept pills or needles and place them in a secure disposal container.
