Learn About Internet Crimes Aimed at Your Children
As parents, do you wonder or even joke that your child knows more about the internet than you do? If so, you’re right. The Fort Myers Police Department wants to offer help.
Children today are among the first generation that has grown up with the internet. As a parent, how much do you know about the pitfalls that may be lurking in cyberspace for your son or daughter?
Detective Rochelle Curr has produced an informative, easy to use pamphlet of tips. This is a guide to inform and educate parents on what to be alert for when it comes to your child’s use of the internet.
“Parents are often shocked when they learn about websites that are targeting their children,” the Detective said. “Our goal with these free brochures is to offer them guidelines to recognize forms of exploitation,” she added. It includes useful links to protective websites. These sites will point out the pros and cons that can range from sexual predators to social media manipulation. Useful parental control software is available to monitor your child’s phone and computer usage.
The pamphlets are available for pick up at the reception desk in the lobby of the Fort Myers Police Department or available for download from the FMPD website at www.fmpolice.com.
