5 Things To Do This Weekend In Fort Myers

Baseball, Cinco de Mayo, comic books, kids, theater and more!

Making weekend plans?  Check out these 5 things to do this weekend in Fort Myers:

A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry

Thursday – Sunday: A fateful life insurance policy becomes a catalyst that will forever transform the lives of a family living on the South Side of Chicago, as they consider buying a house on the white side of town. Their shared dream of a better life collides with conflicting aspirations, betrayal, and racism in this timeless production. Individual tickets to each show of A Raisin in the Sun at Alliance for the Arts are $25, $11 for students or $22 for Alliance members. Performances run May 3-5 and May 10-12 at 8 p.m. and May 6 and 13 at 2 p.m. To purchase tickets, call 239-939-2787 or visit ArtInLee.org/Theatre.

17th Annual Free Comic Book Day

Saturday:  Celebrating its 17th year, Free Comic Book Day is exactly what its name says: an annual event where Comics Cards And Stuff gives away a selection of specially produced comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into our store, with no purchase required. FCBD has grown into a bigger and better event each year, and this year promises to be no exception. Comics Cards and Stuff, now in it’s new and improved location in the Edison Park 8 Plaza, will have a large sale, raffles, charity auction, costume contest and special giveaways – and lots more from 10 am – 5 pm– along with appearances by several “superheroes,” Star Wars Stormtroopers, and several comic creators!

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Saturday:  Come with your salsa shoes to the Cinco de Mayo Downtown Fort Myers Fiesta! The festivities are 4 PM – 10 PM in the heart of the Fort Myers River District. Free to the public, the event promises fun for the entire family. Enjoy live music from Heat Latin Jazz Band, get your Salsa on with live dancers in the street and groove to the beat of a live DJ. Participate in a spicy taco eating contest (there will be a non-spicy contest for the juniors!), make crafts and get giveaways at the kids’ & welcome area, get your face painted and of course, enjoy ice cold Corona & Modelo! Calling all Chihuahua parents! Bring your fur baby Downtown to the welcome tent by Starbucks at 4:30 to be entered into the Chihuahua Walk! There will be prizes for Best Dressed and Most Festive!

Cinco De Sours

Saturday:  Palm City Brewing has not one, but TWO great events packed into one day. Not only is it Cinco De Mayo, but it’s also the Kentucky Derby! So how better to celebrate both, than with SOURS! They will have Vivie Mobile Boutique Group on site with a great selection of Fascinator to choose from for the Kentucky Derby (as well as her great clothing options.) They will also have food trucks ALL DAY Bombin’Tacos and Flavour Street!  There will be a variety of sours on all day with additional new “Special Releases” too!
