Helping our area’s grieving families over this past year and a half has truly become a community effort. School counselors and nurses have helped spread the word about Valerie’s House, many therapists continue to volunteer their time with our children, and a strong Board of Directors is growing and helping us plan for the future.
The last few months have been a whirlwind of highs and lows. The highs are the result of amazing things like being honored as a finalist for the News-Press Person of the Year for 2016, and Valerie’s House being awarded a grant from the Naples Winter Wine Fest. The lows are what we face when we get a call from a family, where Mom has died, and Dad doesn’t know where to turn. It is because we know Valerie’s House can help them, that we are motivated to keep moving forward with this life-changing work. In this month’s newsletter you will meet one of our many volunteers who makes it happen. You will also meet one of our children and see some of the great things our community is doing to help.
Thank you to everyone who is helping us become strong for years to come. Our pressing need right now remains raising money to find a house of our own.The FSU Alumni Club fixed up our rental house this month, and even though I’m a Gator, I have to say, I love them all as they kicked butt! If you are reading this and aren’t involved yet, but want to be, please email me directly. We welcome your support.
